A Lyft mileage tracker for the offline miles Lyft leaves to you
Lyft gives every driver with earnings an Annual Summary in the Dashboard Tax Center by January 31, showing total rides and online miles. Lyft does not define online miles on its tax pages, but its driver blog calls everything else personal miles — driving while you are not waiting for requests or giving rides. Those offline miles are on no Lyft document. If some of them were driven for your Lyft work, only your own log has them, which is why Lyft itself offers drivers a discount on a mileage tracker.

What Lyft's record shows — and what it leaves out
“Online miles”, not defined on Lyft's tax pages. Lyft's blog describes the opposite — offline miles — as time not waiting for requests or giving rides, which implies online means waiting for requests plus giving rides.

One shift, two numbers
Illustrative shift, not Lyft data: 84 online miles, plus 12 miles driven in offline mode on the way into and out of the shift. Rate: IRS standard mileage rate for the period the miles were driven in.
12 mi · Jul–Dec 2026 × 76¢/mi = $9.12
Three different Lyft mileage numbers
A Lyft driver can meet three mileage figures, and they are not the same thing. Online miles on the Annual Summary cover time in driver mode. In California, the Prop 22 per-mile payment of 37¢ covers only booked miles, from accepting a request to drop-off — a narrower window. And the miles your car actually drove for the work include the offline stretches that neither figure touches. None of Lyft's numbers is a log of individual drives with dates and routes; they are totals.
Offline miles are the driver's job
Lyft's own guidance splits the responsibility: it reports online miles, and it describes offline miles as the driver's to keep track of. That is also why Lyft offers every driver 20–60% off a mileage tracker. Which offline miles are deductible for you is a tax question — a professional can answer it for your situation — but a record made as you drive is what makes the question answerable at all. The IRS asks for a record kept at or near the time of each drive (Publication 463).
How CatchMile records a Lyft shift
CatchMile picks up drives in the background without being told a shift has started, so the drive into your first zone and the drive home are recorded like every other drive. It does not connect to Lyft and does not know about rides — it knows about drives. You swipe each one Business, Personal or Commute; the dollar value is shown at the IRS rate for that drive's date, 72.5¢ a mile January–June 2026 and 76¢ July–December. When tracking stops for a reason the phone did not announce, CatchMile shows that in the app.

Lyft mileage — questions drivers ask
Does Lyft track my mileage?
Lyft reports online miles on your Annual Summary in the Dashboard Tax Center. Miles driven in offline mode are not on it — Lyft describes those as personal miles for you to track.
What counts as online miles on Lyft?
Lyft does not define the term on its tax pages. Its driver blog calls offline miles the ones driven when you are not waiting for requests or giving rides, which implies online miles are the rest.
Is the Lyft Annual Summary a tax document?
No. Lyft says it is not an official tax document; it summarises rides, earnings and online miles. The 1099-K and 1099-NEC are the tax forms, and they do not list miles.
Why is my California per-mile pay lower than my online miles?
Prop 22 pay of 37¢ a mile covers booked miles only — from accepting a request to drop-off. Online miles also include time waiting for requests, so the two figures differ by design.
Does Lyft give a discount on a mileage tracker?
Yes — 20–60% off Everlance Starter by Lyft Rewards tier, and free for Elite drivers. Whatever you use, the aim is a drive-by-drive record made as you work.
